Mesa Cortina Trail Wildernest Silverthorne
Take in the scenery on an easy-moderate hike on the Mesa Cortina Trail in Wildernest. It offers a fairly easy and pleasant stroll for all ages. The path intertwines through the aspen forest to 2 meadows (great for picnics) with vistas of the Blue River Valley and Silverthorne, Lake Dillon and Ptarmigan Mountain. You may be so lucky to spot a deer or a moose! In June, view the wild iris, then harebell, mariposa lily, columbine, cinquefoil, lupine and wild rose. This is also a great trail for snowshoeing.
Directions. North on Colorado 9 from the I-70 Silverthorne exit, 205 to the Wildernest Road at the 7-11 gas station corner, across the street from Wendy's. The trailhead is Mesa Cortina, 1.6 miles. Turn left and proceed to the fork. Turn right and then immediately left on Royal Buffalo Drive (no. 1240). Drive 1.0 miles to Lakeview Drive (no. 1245) and turn right. Proceed to the fork with Aspen Drive. Turn left on Aspen, up and around a short distance to the trailhead pull-off.
